چکیده

We investigate hedonic games under enemies aversion and friends appreciation, where every agent considers other agents as either a friend or an enemy. We extend these simple preferences by allowing each agent to also consider other agents to be neutral. Neutrals have no impact on her preference, as in a graphical hedonic game. Surprisingly, we discover that neutral agents do not simplify matters, but cause complexity. We prove that the core can be empty under enemies aversion and the strict core can be empty under friends appreciation. Furthermore, we show that under both preferences, deciding whether the strict core is nonempty, is NPNP-complete. This complexity extends to the core under enemies aversion. We also show that under friends appreciation, we can always find a core stable coalition structure in polynomial time.

Simple Priorities and Core Stability in Hedonic Games

In this paper we study hedonic games where each player views every other player either as a friend or as an enemy. Two simple priority criteria for comparison of coalitions are suggested, and the corresponding preference restrictions based on appreciation of friends and aversion to enemies are considered. It turns out that the first domain restriction guarantees non-emptiness of the strong core...

From Election Fraud to Finding the Dream Team: A Study of the Computational Complexity in Voting Problems and Stability in Hedonic Games

In this thesis we study computational aspects of different voting problems and cooperative games with hedonic preferences. For two well-studied voting systems, namely Bucklin and fallback voting, we present a detailed study of the computational complexity of common manipulative attacks on elections. We fully describe the classical worst-case complexity of manipulation, bribery, and swap bribery...

Representing and Solving Hedonic Games with Ordinal Preferences and Thresholds

We propose a new representation setting for hedonic games, where each agent partitions the set of other agents into friends, enemies, and neutral agents, with friends and enemies being ranked. Under the assumption that preferences are monotonic (respectively, antimonotonic) with respect to the addition of friends (respectively, enemies), we propose a bipolar extension of the Bossong–Schweigert ...

Enemies and friends in hedonic games: individual deviations, stability and manipulation∗

We consider hedonic games with separable preferences, and explore the existence of stable coalition structures if only individual deviations are allowed. For two natural subdomains of separable preferences, namely preference domains based on (1) aversion to enemies and (2) appreciation of friends, we show that an individually stable coalition structure always exist, and a Nash stable coalition ...

Altruistic Hedonic Games

Hedonic games are coalition formation games in which players have preferences over the coalitions they can join. All models of representing hedonic games studied so far are based upon selfish players only. Among the known ways of representing hedonic games compactly, we focus on friend-oriented hedonic games and propose a novel model for them that takes into account not only a player’s own pref...
